Pins of Bone Six by Ten is breathtakingly gorgeous, and you don't have to be familiar with Gilgamesh to appreciate it.

And Hours (Aoi Hana) is almost painfully cute, much like the source material.

My recs post is locked, but through the magic of cut and paste:

For my present I got a lovely little pre-canon scene for Jemisin's Inheritance Trilogy, Echoes in an Empty Place, about Kurue and Zhakkarn in their days as Enefadeh. It has just the right atmosphere of exhaustion and bitterness and resignation, plus bonus femslash. Everything I asked for! I just want to cuddle it. Also, I want to ask for more Zhakkarn fic, because she is tragically underused in the trilogy.

Other fic I particularly enjoyed include the Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame story Sword and Fan and Feathered Jacket, which has a strong Jing'er voice and a drily humorous Di; Ink, Stone, Brush, Paper, a bittersweet take on a historic Chinese poem; and Fifty Years in the Virtuous City, a beautiful story of two women orbiting around each other from childhood to old age. The latter two really don't require any canon knowledge to enjoy.
