Don't know if it's relevant, but while the writing system for Peking Opera Blues is Chinese hanzi, the pronunciation should be based on Cantonese.

Yes, for Peking Opera Blues, we tried our best to base the pronunciation on Cantonese. :)

I didn't nominate it and have no strong opinion, but I'll note that Brazilian artist Rafael Albuquerque illustrated issues 11-39 of the 2006-2009 run of Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes & Paco Tejas). Brazilian artist Ig Guara illustrated the Blue Beetle launched in 2011.

Neither of them were involved in developing the initial character concept, unlike the three creators you mention above (Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner [the illustrator for issues 1-10]), but I wasn't sure how tightly you were defining "creator" when it came to comics.

Thank you, [personal profile] ambyr, for the clarification and information! In general, we only considered the person(s) credited as the creator(s) or credited with creating the concept whether that be TV Shows, Comics, Video Games, etc. rather than the team of artists, producers, writers, etc. that contributes to the running of a series or franchise as the main creators under eligibility consideration.

However, after discussions, we as a mod team agreed to consider people who are (co-)credited for a franchise, series and/or character reboot as eligible creators for our challenge as seems to be the case for Blue Beetle in 2011? Blue Beetle version 2011 will then qualify for Kaleidoscope under this policy.

Seirei no Moribito | 精霊の守り人| Moribito: Guardian of the Sacred Spirit [Kana/kanji]: Yuka Yonsa

Wow, super minor character. Googling in English got me mainly someone's fanfic, but I did see a summary of one of the actual books saying this is a character's aunt. However, googling in Japanese got me not a single mention of the character, so I can only guess at the canonical name.

All the other characters in the series have names in katakana, since it's a fantasy world, so I believe her name should also be in katakana. As for the family name, it doesn't look like there is anything but assumption to base that on (she's related to two people with the family name of Yonsa, so her name would Yonsa as well), but in the absence of anything else to go on, it's not a bad assumption.

It should be written ユカ・ヨンサ.

Re: FAKE
I'm pretty sure Dee Laytner is canonically Latino and it's definitely canonical Rai Spencer is Chinese.

Thanks for the information; we'll add them back to the tag set. (Apologies for the mistake in rejecting them in the first place!)

ETA: Incidentally, can you confirm whether it's ライ·スペンサー or レイ·スペンサー for Rai Spencer?

I just found out about the Kaleidoscope challenge today and look forward to reading the results :)

Also, I saw you list Pumzi as an eligible source. The trailer I saw on YouTube was awesome and where did you find a copy of the full film?!

I tried to find out where to buy it, had no luck, and thought that only the people who saw it during Sundance (or know director Wanuri Kahiu and can ask *her*) can watch it now. :/

Where's it available now? :D

Hi -- Thanks to a comment from [personal profile] carmarthen, I learned that Pumzi is available in a DVD anthology called Africa First. I don't know if you have access to Amazon or Netflix, but the DVD is available there.

Thanks for the tip - and now I can recommend that my local libraries buy it too! :D Earlier I asked a librarian where to get this and we both got stuck, so now I want to share the info. :)
