This is pretty last minute, but [community profile] eid_ka_chand's challenge for Eid-al-Fitr focussed on fictional Muslim characters is being sponsored by a number of people in order to raise money for the Pakistan flood survivors.

50 fanworks can raise - $625.

The challenge will close on the end of 11th September 2010. So if you feel you have it in you to write up some meta about a great Muslim character, or make icons of a movie, or even write a drabble, please consider doing it to help us raise the largest amount we can. Write up a fandom pimp post, even, and cross post it here as we start gearing up for [community profile] yuletide!

Not all Muslims are chromatic, but many are, and we'd love to be able to get more representaiton of them in fandom!

[community profile] eid_ka_chand, which I co-mod, is running its annual Eid al-Fitr challenge! Not all Muslims are chromatic of course, but scanning the master list of fictional Muslim characters shows that a large number are, and increasing positive representation of chromatic Muslims in fandom is something I really hope you might enjoy doing along with me!

Also, [community profile] daysofawesome is running its annual Days of Awe challenge for Jewish characters. And once again, not all Jews are white!

Racial identity, religious identity, and the representation thereof in media is such a complicated thing... which makes challenges that talk about it a great place to start fannish discussion about it.
