To answer your question: we, as a moderating team for [community profile] dark_agenda, recognize that whiteness is a social construction that changes with time, and we recognize the complexity of Jewish identity and identification. However, our goal is to encourage and promote the representation of Jewish people of color/non-white and their communities, which have been in existence for centuries, but underrepresented and sometimes not recognized within the broader Jewish community and outside of it: Jewish Multiracial Network and IBARW: celebrating the diversity of Jewish community. We prioritize their voices and, as such, being Jewish descent would not automatically and presently qualify the characters or people for our challenge. The characters and people must also identify and/or be coded as Jewish people of color/non-white as well. Our decision may change as the image and face of the broader Jewish community changes and we continue to encourage portrayal and discussions on the intersectionality of Judaism and race.
