Chromatic fandom collecting!
I realize it is super early, but I always come up with fandoms I want to nominate for Yuletide right after Yuletide is over, and then forget them as soon as nominations come up.
So, for the record (and for general brainstorming):
- Peking Opera Blues (1986 HK movie with Brigitte Lin crossdressing, 3 female main characters, and a ton of femslashy subtext)
- Dearling Physique's Discipline Your Hands music vid.
- Karen Lord's Redemption in Indigo for some African-based fantasy
- Amitav Ghosh's Calcutta Chromosome for Indian SF
- Woman Who Still Wants to Marry (kdrama)
Anyone? I am hoping to find more Latin@, African, and indigenous sources for the coming year.

Cindy Pon – Silver Phoenix (an authentic-feeling Chinese fantasy)
LI Shangyin – Works. There are six poems listed, nd they are all imaginative, poetic, and subtle. A lot of space for interpretation
N.J. Jeminsin – The Effluent Engine (steampunk Haitan lesbian espionage)
Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology
Trese (Filipino supernatural detective comics)
Táng Cháo | Tang Dynasty RPF

Also, to all the Filipino and Singaporean fen out here -- Mediacorp also bought the dub to Tayong Dalawa, which is Classic Azn Soap Opera and yet so delightfully frothy and sugary like burnt cream.
*is stuck on Azn Soap Operas, whee*

(Anonymous) 2011-01-09 10:09 am (UTC)(link)I'm not going to waste one of my nominations on a source that I hate, but it would be nice to see Heart of Darkness from the PoV of any of the African characters.

Anything by Jin Yong, srsly.

Andrea Hairston, Mindscape
Nalo Hopkinson, Brown Girl in the Ring
(All are SF novels in English - the first and third were published internationally, but Mindscape is small press and may be hard to get, though I do see it on Amazon.co.uk.)
All of these universes are brilliant and I would love to see fic for them, with OCs or canon characters.

I might also ask for fic based on Tobias Bucknell's Crystal Rain, which is Caribbean steampunk and science fiction.
And I don't know if I'd request it, but if someone wrote fic for Push/Precious, I'd probably read it.
(Edited to fix broken HTML tags.)

I said I would update this periodically through the year
Rica Takahashi's Rica 'tte Kanji, a deeply adorable manga about a lesbian from the country coming to Tokyo for school, coming out, and having a happy time in the city. In a note, the author said she wanted to write about normal life, something happy, instead of all the angsty dramatic tragic stories about lesbians she saw all the time.
Jeremy Love, Bayou (comics) - Alice in Wonderland meets Brer Rabbit in the post-Reconstruction South.
Amruta Patil, Kari (graphic novel) - Butch lesbian ad exec in weird and maybe kinda magic realist Bombay
Shaun Tan, Lost and Found - Depressed little girls. Big red machines. Creepy Enlightenment rabbits and the marsupials they destroy.
Natsuhiko Kyogoku, The Summer of the Ubume (novel) - psychological horror based on Japanese folklore.
Cao Xueqin, The Story of the Stone/Dream of the Red Chamber - So much homoeroticism. So much more to say about the women.
Nahoko Uehashi, Moribito (novels) - children's fantasy about a warrior woman
