Chromatic fandom collecting!

I realize it is super early, but I always come up with fandoms I want to nominate for Yuletide right after Yuletide is over, and then forget them as soon as nominations come up.

So, for the record (and for general brainstorming):

- Peking Opera Blues (1986 HK movie with Brigitte Lin crossdressing, 3 female main characters, and a ton of femslashy subtext)
- Dearling Physique's Discipline Your Hands music vid.
- Karen Lord's Redemption in Indigo for some African-based fantasy
- Amitav Ghosh's Calcutta Chromosome for Indian SF
- Woman Who Still Wants to Marry (kdrama)

Anyone? I am hoping to find more Latin@, African, and indigenous sources for the coming year.

this is not from a chromatic source, but

ChungKing Express Link on Wikipedia Link on IMDB - a 1994 Wong Kar Wai film about love, urbanity, and memory.

Cindy Pon – Silver Phoenix (an authentic-feeling Chinese fantasy)

LI Shangyin – Works. There are six poems listed, nd they are all imaginative, poetic, and subtle. A lot of space for interpretation
N.J. Jeminsin – The Effluent Engine (steampunk Haitan lesbian espionage)

Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology

Trese (Filipino supernatural detective comics)

Táng Cháo | Tang Dynasty RPF
naraht: Moonrise over Earth (Default)

I would quite like to request RPF about Yoko Ono next year.

Mediacorp Channel 8's Mandarin drama 《小娘惹》 (The Little Nyonya), which was sold to Cambodia, China, and various Asian markets, was a breakout hit in 2008, while disastrously genderfail. (It also yellow-washed Peranakan culture by replacing Malay patois with Mandarin.) Nonetheless, I hope there's enough of an SEAsian viewership to tackle this source! (It's one of my guilty pleasurez.)

Also, to all the Filipino and Singaporean fen out here -- Mediacorp also bought the dub to Tayong Dalawa, which is Classic Azn Soap Opera and yet so delightfully frothy and sugary like burnt cream.

*is stuck on Azn Soap Operas, whee*

My mainstay [tho I was behind and didn't get to nominate it this time around] is Poltergeist: the Legacy, particularly for Alex Moreau and her family.

Its still in my to-read pile so I don't have an opinion of my own yet, but a lot of my friends have been recommending Wizard of the Crow by Ngugi wa Thiong'o, a dystopian satire from Kenya.

I was thinking of 2NE1's MV, It Hurts (아파) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUiMaz4BNKw). It's such a pretty vid.

I'm not going to waste one of my nominations on a source that I hate, but it would be nice to see Heart of Darkness from the PoV of any of the African characters.

Seven Swordsmen (Chinese/CCTV TV series, 2005).

Anything by Jin Yong, srsly.
rhivolution: Freema Agyeman is badass (save the time lord save the world: Marth)

Nnedi Okorafor, Zahrah the Windseeker
Andrea Hairston, Mindscape
Nalo Hopkinson, Brown Girl in the Ring
(All are SF novels in English - the first and third were published internationally, but Mindscape is small press and may be hard to get, though I do see it on Amazon.co.uk.)

All of these universes are brilliant and I would love to see fic for them, with OCs or canon characters.

I am not sure about the numbering, but since in all the parts, there was only one part with Joey Wang, you should just look out for the part with her :)
but its definitely part of the swordman series.

I finished Last Friends a few weeks after nominations closed this year, unfortunately, but I want to request it for 2011; it's a Japanese drama about abuse and LGBT issues.

I might also ask for fic based on Tobias Bucknell's Crystal Rain, which is Caribbean steampunk and science fiction.

And I don't know if I'd request it, but if someone wrote fic for Push/Precious, I'd probably read it.

(Edited to fix broken HTML tags.)

Yay for brainstorming! Here are some chromatic-source fandoms I've jotted down:

3 Minutes: short Youtube film starring Harry Shum, Jr. and Stephen 'tWitch' Boss Steve
Gichalbirok | Secret Investigation Record (a.k.a. Joseon X-Files): historical/supernatural kdrama
Kuragehime | Jellyfish Princess: Japanese anime show
Summer Wars: Japanese anime film
Queens of Langkasuka: Thai historical/fantasy/adventure film

I was just going to come and rec 3Minutes! I want fic for that now--I don't know if I can wait for next Yuletide!

... Also, YES Queens of Langkasuka/Legend of the Tsunami Warrior (if you're looking for the DVD in the US.) SO AWESOME.

Yuki Shimizu's Ze, a yaoi series about a family of magic users--kotodamashi--who are bonded with "kami-sama," basically paper doll familiars in human form. Naturally this leads to angst and gay sex. Mostly of the m/m persuasion, although there's an f/f pair -- except one of them cross-dresses all the time, and I think you could plausibly read her as a trans man or genderqueer. Sadly but unsurprisingly, the f/f pair do not get much screentime or a dedicated storyline. The m/m pairs come in many and varied id vortext situations.

Rica Takahashi's Rica 'tte Kanji, a deeply adorable manga about a lesbian from the country coming to Tokyo for school, coming out, and having a happy time in the city. In a note, the author said she wanted to write about normal life, something happy, instead of all the angsty dramatic tragic stories about lesbians she saw all the time.

Jeremy Love, Bayou (comics) - Alice in Wonderland meets Brer Rabbit in the post-Reconstruction South.

Amruta Patil, Kari (graphic novel) - Butch lesbian ad exec in weird and maybe kinda magic realist Bombay

Shaun Tan, Lost and Found - Depressed little girls. Big red machines. Creepy Enlightenment rabbits and the marsupials they destroy.

Natsuhiko Kyogoku, The Summer of the Ubume (novel) - psychological horror based on Japanese folklore.

Cao Xueqin, The Story of the Stone/Dream of the Red Chamber - So much homoeroticism. So much more to say about the women.

Nahoko Uehashi, Moribito (novels) - children's fantasy about a warrior woman
