Kaleidoscope Check-in

Doers of darkness, we are now two weeks into the assignment period! How are you feeling about your assignments? Are any of you considering the fandoms that you didn't get matched on? ;) Feel free to comment anonymously if you want to avoid giving yourself away!

Here are some links that you may find useful while considering your assignments:

• Dear Doer of Darkness letters: see if your recipient has written a Dear Doer of Darkness letter! Alternately, if you've written one recently, you can drop a link to it in the comments; we will be updating the list.
  
• Beta Resources: please let us know if you are willing to offer beta services for specific fandoms/cultures for Kaleidoscope, as we will need your help to match beta requests!
  
• Permission Policy Form: if you would like to provide partial or blanket permissions for secondary fanworks based upon the works you create for the Kaleidoscope challenge (e.g. podfics, remixes, etc.), please fill out this form!

We've also sent out our first pinch hit request, so those of you who missed sign-ups (or are ambitious to take on another assignment!), please be sure to subscribe to our pinch hit mailing list! You can join the list here. As a reminder, if for whatever reason, you find yourself needing to default on your assignment, let us know as soon as possible at the default form. The deadline to default without penalty on art, vid or graphics requests is this Saturday, 2011 October 29, 9 PM Pacific Time.

My fic is with my beta reader right now, and I am excited. I'd like to write some treats, but the people who requested the fandoms I am most interested in treating in did not write letters *sadfaces* I am still chewing on a couple of letters, though, just in case something takes my fancy.

I've made a treat, but I didn't sign up so can't fill out the Permission Policy Form. Anyway, I give blanket permission for everything!

Ah, sorry about that! I should probably fix that before Treats officially open up. In the meantime, if you give me your AO3 name and email address (you can email darkadmn@gmail.com if necessary), I can make sure it's included in our list of Kaleidoscope creators giving permission.

I'm not sure of the norms and practices around keeping assignments a surprise: is it okay to approach someone who you did not match on, but who requested a fandom that you're writing on, to ask if they could beta for you?

I am so sorry for not responding earlier, but yes, it is completely fine to approach someone who also requested the fandom as long as they are not your recipient.

I love my assignment; it's in a fandom that was probably one of the top ones I offered in terms of how much I hoped to get it. :D I'm feeling my way around a first draft -- not quite done w/it yet (I. need. an. ending. -- what else is new?), but having fun so far. \o/ Also enjoyed research for it *looks mysterious*.

I think this is the earliest I've ever had a draft done for an exchange! With betas now, feeling good about it, hoping they don't tell me it is terrible. I'm eyeing the treats, but not sure I can produce anything in the fandoms I'm most interested in that quickly given RL commitments. We shall see.

I am VERY EXCITED about Kaleidoscope, eeee. So much fun!
