Three Weeks for Dreamwidth: The Chromatic Fiesta Challenge

I've been trying to figure out how this comm can participate in the [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw challenge to generate content exclusive to Dreamwidth for the next three weeks, since in terms of fiction repository, we'd like to encourage posting to AO3, given our plans to set up a Dark Agenda collection there.

Then it occurred to me that one of the burning needs during [archiveofourown.org profile] yuletide was for pimp posts enticing more people into the joy of a particular chromatic fandom or character. We linked to them when we could find them, but why not create a centralised resource?

So for the next three weeks, we are declaring a fiesta of celebration in the comm. Post about your favourite book with fabulous fanart, that K drama your screencaps will lure people to, or the Bollywood movie you have links to fic for. If there isn't a chromatic source you can talk about, post about a chromatic character, ranting about the injustice that denies her screentime, or raving about how well the actor captures the cultural nuances.

Just remember to put large images and embedded video behind a cut, and to tag your post with "fandom:" and "character:" tags, as well as the "three weeks for dreamwidth" tag.

And while the more posts the more shiny for us all, do consider commenting to this post with your planned topic, so that other people can avoid it if they want to not be duplicating your efforts.

And if any posts inspire you to creative efforts, please to post/link to them in comments!

This is perhaps not the most cleverly named challenge. It makes ironic (I'm hoping!) use of a racist and sexist stereotyping phrase--that seems not a good idea if the point of the comm is to work against racism.

I am more than willing to hear your reasoning in this matter.

[personal profile] dark_administrator"s reasoning isn't really relevant, especially not to someone who isn't a member of the community. This comm was founded by fans of color, and is primarily read by FoC. It was started because of lack of representation and race!fail, and the name is a (yes, snarky, one might even say "mean") dig at the whining going on in fandom at the time that FoC had an ~*~agenda~*~ to harsh on white fans' squee (nevermind the fact that PoC have been critically discussing media of all forms and genres for generations). Our skin is dark. We have an agenda (to create and consume transformative works that give *us* squeeful moments). There's nothing to be ashamed of in any of that.

All right. This wouldn't be the first time that I as a white person made the mistake of thinking it was my role as an ally to be protective--which is patronizing and not what I want to be!--rather than to just listen. Please accept my apologies.

No harm done and no need to apologize.

It was ironic reclamation of the phrase chosen as a title for a 'pimp post' challenge, and I'm posting with my personal account to take full and sole responsibility for the choice.

If other WoC object to it, I will of course apologise and remove it from the post.

Checked it with some other people, realised it was not the sort of humour appropriate for a public comm, changed it. Thanks!

Thanks for listening to me even though I'm not a WOC. I spent an uncomfortable hour or so away from the computer thinking, "ah, what if that was unhelpful and seemed all concern-troll-ish."

Happy you are doing another challenge!

Right, sorry. I thought you were referring to the name of the comm ('dark agenda') and not the "Love You Long Time" bit. Please to be disregarding my comment.

Oh. Yes. No, it was the "love you long time" thing. I followed this comm when you started it because I was psyched to find a positive way for more work by creators of color to get covered in Yuletide.

I'm glad you're watching the comm, and you're welcome to contribute fic too ;-) I apologize for being harsh in my earlier comment. I'm a bit sick of the tone policing and "well why do *they* get to use the n-word/'coloured'/other in-group macabre jokes or language" that's been going around.

(Also, just for the record, Kutti started the comm. I'm just one of her loyal minions. I joined up after she got the ball rolling)

I got fic for Love and Rockets because of this initiative. You folks also highlighted the works of Vikram Seth, one of my favorite writers.

Sorry that I didn't know who was who or what was what!

Commenting with my intention to post about several Latin American movies that I think should be Yuletided: Madame Satã and Antônia from Brazil, Leonera and Plata quemada from Argentina, the transnational project Los diarios de motocicleta, and possibly Y tu mamá también from Mexico, though I'm happy to sit back on the last if someone else would like to squee for me.
