Chromatic Remix 2011 Drabblefest Prompts: Day 4
For Chromatic Remix 2011:
Caetano Veloso - "Tropicalia"
Adapted from Maki's recipe.
For 1 serving:
- Drabblefest Prompts: Day 1
- Drabblefest Prompts: Day 2
- Drabblefest Prompts: Day 3
- Drabblefest Prompts: Day 4
- Drabblefest Prompts: Day 5
- Drabblefest Prompts: Day 6
- Drabblefest Prompts: Day 7
Guidelines
- To qualify for Remix Redux 2011, you will need at least five (5) stories of at least 500 words OR at least seven (7) stories of at least 100 words in any one qualifying fandom. However, you don't have to participate in
remix to play in our drabblefest.
- The goal is to write a story of at least 100 words in one of the qualifying Remix fandoms, but there are no maximum word limit and no restriction on the fandom written. If you end up writing a longer story or for a non-qualifying fandom, all the more joy.
- Prompts are entirely optional, to be used, subverted or ignored as you please.
- The story must have a chromatic character at the centre of its narrative.
- The story can be posted in its entirety in the comments of each day's prompts post as long as a fandom and a rating is included in the subject -- or merely linked with header information noted.
- Suggestions and requests for fandom or character specific prompts in the comments are welcome, but please be careful that the ratio of prompts to stories does not tilt heavily towards the former.
Sound
Caetano Veloso - "Tropicalia"
Lyrics for Caetano Veloso's Tropicalia
Sobre a cabeça os aviões
Sob os meus pés os caminhões
Aponta contra os chapadões
Meu nariz
Eu organizo o movimento
Eu oriento o carnaval
Eu inauguro o monumento no planalto central
Do país
Viva a bossa-sa-sa
Viva a palhoça-ça-ça-ça-ça
Viva a bossa-sa-sa
Viva a palhoça-ça-ça-ça-ça
O monumento é de papel crepom e prata
Os olhos verdes da mulata
A cabeleira esconde atrás da verde mata
O luar do sertão
O monumento não tem porta
A entrada de uma rua antiga, estreita e torta
E no joelho uma criança sorridente, feia e morta
Estende a mão
Viva a mata-ta-ta
Viva a mulata-ta-ta-ta-ta
Viva a mata-ta-ta
Viva a mulata-ta-ta-ta-ta
No pátio interno há uma piscina
Com água azul de Amaralina
Coqueiro, brisa e fala nordestina e faróis
Na mão direita tem uma roseira
Autenticando eterna primavera
E nos jardins os urubus passeiam a tarde inteira
Entre os girassóis
Viva Maria-ia-ia
Viva a Bahia-ia-ia-ia-ia
Viva Maria-ia-ia
Viva a Bahia-ia-ia-ia-ia
No pulso esquerdo bang-bang
Em suas veias corre muito pouco sangue
Mas seu coração balança a um samba de tamborim
Emite acordes dissonantes

Scent
Omuraisu | Omurice
Adapted from Maki's recipe.
Tasks
- Moderate amount of lifting and carrying, including a medium sized sauté/frying pan & small saucepan.
- Moderate to high amount of washing, chopping, flipping, tossing, stirring, frying and transferring food.
- Moderate amount of preparing and time management, including watching food and overseeing tasks.
- Moderate amount of operating a stove.
- Moderate to high amount of post-cooking cleaning.
Materials
- Medium (~10 in/26 cm) non-stick sauté/frying pan or smaller
- Heat-proof kitchen spatula/turner
- Rice cooker or small (~1 quart/liter) saucepan with cover & rice paddle or smaller
- 1-cup measuring cup
- Medium cutting board & knife
- A bowl to whisk eggs, bowl to shape the omuraisu, a plate (to cover said bowl), a fork and a spoon.
Ingredients
- Preferred type of rice for frying
- Water
- Large eggs
- Packaged cooked & sliced ham (or other type of preferred meat)
- Bottled ketchup
- Green onions
- Olive oil
- Salt, sugar & pepper
Directions
For 1 serving:
- Cook rice and set aside. One method for cooking rice:
- Measure 1 cup/250 ml of rice and pour it into a medium (~1 quart/liter) saucepan.
- Wash & rinse rice with cold water 1-3 times in saucepan. Drain saucepan of water and fill it with ~2/3 cup/150 ml of clean cold water (more if you prefer sticky rice, but not too much or the rice will be too sticky to fry).
- Turn stove to medium heat and cook rice for ~10-15 min with cover on (don't worry about if the rice's burning a little on the bottom; you can scrape them out and they make for some yummy nibbling food or when rice's cooked, scoop out all the rice and pour water into the saucepan immediately for easier cleaning).
- Uncover saucepan, fluff the rice with a rice paddle, turn off heat and leave rice to cool.
- Grab ~1-2 stalks of green onions, cut the roots and wash green onions. Chop green onions into small pieces and set aside.
- Grab a couple of slices of ham, chop ham into small squares and set aside.
- Crack ~2 large eggs into a bowl & whisk. Season with salt, sugar & pepper.
- On another burner, turn stove on to medium heat, add ~1 tsp/5 ml olive oil to a medium (~10 in/26 cm) non-stick sauté pan/frying pan and heat for ~1 minute. Add eggs to pan and let it cook for ~1-3 minutes on one side until it's golden brown. Flip the omelet and let it cook for ~1-3 minutes on the other side until it's also golden brown. Slip and slide omelet into a bowl, moulding the omelet so it would stick around the edges of the bowl (if imperfectly). Set aside.
- On the same burner, turn heat to low and with the same pan, add ~1 tsp/5 ml olive olive. Add green onions to pan and sauté for ~1-2 min.
- Turn heat to medium, add ham and sauté for a minute. Add rice and toss for another minute. Add ~1-2 tsp/5-10 ml ketchup and toss for another couple of minutes (~5 min) until the ketchup is absorbed. Season with pinches of salt, sugar & pepper.
- Turn off heat and scoop rice into the bowl with the omelet, packing down the rice. Cover bowl with a plate and flip bowl & plate over. Remove bowl and the rice should be mounded by the omelet on top. If desire, drizzle omuraisu with ketchup and serve.
Sensation
In my perineum a new born kitten
Keeps licking my manhood
My pulse is throbbing on my temple
Then a summer rain befalls

Marvel comics, Luke, Danny, Misty and Colleen, G
Back to the back stage, Luke couldn't help but show some of the excitement. "Good work today."
"You too," Misty said, "The audience love your Flirting with Danger."
"Now back to the business. We have collected intel about the government armory, and I would like to go through the plan with all of you." Luke was all business and showed them a map. The others straightened their faces and started to discuss the plan.
"All right, time to go now," Luke said. The others nodded. Luke looked at the others and was grateful that he had these good friends to help. He was confident that though the prospect didn't look so good, they would one day bring down the dictator. It would happen in their lives.
Marvel comics, Misty/Colleen, G
"Dear Colleen, I am sorry for," Sorry for what? There 're too many things to be sorry for. Sorry for being too stupid, Sorry for being too stubborn, Sorry for not grabbing the chance. There were so many things she could be sorry for, but the apology tangled like vines and Misty wasn't sure how to express her sincerity.
"Dear Colleen, How 's your life in Japan? It must be great to return home and..." What if Colleen decided to never return? Fear grabbed Misty and she forced herself to calm down. That was one of the reason she was writing the letter. Colleen had a right to know what she felt about her.
Misty played with the pen, raised her head and saw Colleen's computer. Maybe she should type it and sent an email to Colleen. It would be more efficient. But Misty still liked to think that hand writing was more personal. It was more suited for business of heart. Colleen would laugh at her for being so sentimental, Misty thought fondly, but she wasn't here and her opinion couldn't count now.
Finally Misty put down the pen. Perhaps she should try later. Colleen deserved the best, Misty thought.
Marvel comics, Luke/Danny, PG
"No, nothing wrong with them. Why asked?"
"You keep squinting at me, and you keep knocking into me. Do you finally need a pair of glasses? I think your chi can heal everything."
"Not exactly, but my eyesight's good."
"Then what's happened?"
Danny looked frustrated, and Luke had no idea why. In these few days Danny kept looking at him strangely, and touched him when he though Luke didn't notice. He seemed to want to say something but he couldn't. Luke started to worry that Danny was replaced by a shape-shifter again.
"I don't know why it doesn't work. It works in TV."
"You watch TV? You should know that there's nothing good on it. Now do tell."
Danny muttered something too quiet for Luke to hear. Then he pounced on Luke and knocked his teeth on Luke's. It was painful. Luke stalled for several minutes and pushed Danny away.
"Are you coming on to me?" Luke asked.
"Well, it clearly doesn't work. I'm very sorry. Can we still be friends and forget everything about this?" Danny's shoulders slumped.
"Well, I can't believe if this was how you persuade Misty to be your girlfriend. And I'm not saying no, stupid."
"Really?" There's spark in Danny's eyes.
"Well, if we're doing this, we should do it properly. Let's have a lunch date first and we'll see."
"Great! I know the best place to go." Danny cheered, and ran out of the office.
Luke shook his head and followed the trouble that was Danny. There was a smile on his face though.
