Dark Agenda

Hello doers of darkness -- We're taking a quick break from Kaleidoscope (less than two days!) to discuss some non-Kaleidoscope related things. A while back, we had a request for a general dark_agenda's AO3 collection and now it's finally here:

Dark Agenda Archive

Dark Agenda Archive is a collection for fanworks created in the spirit of Dark Agenda to promote representation and responsible portrayal of chromatic characters and sources, but not produced for any other challenges we've hosted, e.g. Chromatic Remix, Chromatic Yuletide, Kaleidoscope and Racebending Revenge.

We welcome artworks, fiction, graphics, vids and other fanworks in English, in non-English languages or in both, but particularly in English dialects and non-English languages associated with chromatic cultures, from all sources with chromatic characters or people, especially sources by chromatic creators: from animations to books & literature to folklore & mythology to movies to music to real people to sequential art to theater to TV shows to video games and including anime/manga/manhua/manhwa, Bollywood, C-Pop/K-Pop/J-Pop, fantaserye/telefantasya, komiks, lakorns, Nollywood, telenovela, tokusatsu and wuxia to name a few commonly known and region-specific genre terms. However, any fanworks submitted to this collection must be centered around at least one chromatic character.

We've also set up collections for past submissions from Chromatic Remix Redux and Chromatic Yuletide 2009 so feel free to add fanworks to the above three collections.

On the topic of Chromatic Yuletide, you've probably guessed it, but we will not be running Chromatic Yuletide this year. However, we welcome posts brainstorming for nominations of chromatic fandoms, resources posts of nominated chromatic fandoms and so on; and, of course, our past Chromatic Yuletide posts have lots of links and resources that might be helpful for those participating yuletide this year and beyond.

There are also other challenges where we collectively could promote responsible representation of chromatic characters. In fact, we were recently pointed toward a discussion on the pattern of chromatic women being particularly underrepresented in fanworks centered around women at rarewomen, a Rare Women Fic Exchange, so we encourage doers of darkness to join in the discussion of eligible fandoms and rare-ness to increase the presence of chromatic women.

We also encourage doers of darkness to check out ladiesbigbang. Postings have started and several submissions focused on chromatic women!

In other news, there's about one week before Remix Redux 9 stories are due. We hope that writing is going well!

Hello doers of darkness! Remix 2011 signups are open, and we are once again hosting a seven-day chromatic drabblefest for qualifying Remix fandoms.

As we stated last year, our challenge toward increasing the presence of chromatic characters in remix stories is twofold:

1. Produce at least seven drabbles featuring chromatic characters that a participant can remix.


2. Try to write a remix that features a chromatic character.

We use the term “chromatic” as an umbrella definition for “person of color”, “non-white”, "sourcelander”, “hyphenate”, “diasporian”, "multiracial", "indigenous"; while we acknowledge that it has shortcomings.

To qualify for Remix Redux 2011, you will need at least five (5) stories of at least 500 words OR at least seven (7) stories of at least 100 words in any one qualifying fandom. Our list of chromatic characters from this year's qualifying fandoms can be found here. However, you don't have to participate in remix to play in our drabblefest and even if you are already qualified for remix, come play along so that you have more chromatic character stories that can be remixed! Since your remixer can choose from your entire body of works, if you are already qualified, you may also choose to write outside of the list of qualifying fandoms.

Drabblefest Guidelines

• The goal is to write a story of at least 100 words in one of the qualifying Remix fandoms, but there are no maximum word limit and no restriction on the fandom written. If you end up writing a longer story or for a non-qualifying fandom, all the more joy.


• Prompts are entirely optional, to be used, subverted or ignored as you please.


• The story must have a chromatic character at the centre of its narrative.


• The story can be posted in its entirety in the comments of each day's prompts post as long as a fandom and a rating is included in the subject -- or merely linked with header information noted.


• Suggestions and requests for fandom or character specific prompts in the comments are welcome, but please be careful that the ratio of prompts to stories does not tilt heavily towards the former.

Our drabblefest will run from March 13th to March 19th (North American time zones). Today's prompts can be found here.

One more into the subversive breach, fellow Doers of Darkness!
This time round, we take on Remix 2010, which is probably the biggest multi-fandom challenge after yuletide.

So here is our challenge toward increasing the presence of Chromatic characters in Remix fanfiction -
ONE: Produce at least seven drabbles featuring chromatic characters that a participant can remix.
TWO: Try to write a remix that features a chromatic character.

Even if you have not written much for any of these fandoms, you can qualify for remix participation by writing 7 drabbles of at least 100 words each in any one fandom. So we're going host a seven-day drabble fest right here. Even if you already qualify for remix, come play along so that you have seven chromatic character stories that can be remixed! Our drabble fest will run from the 24th to the 30th of March. On the 31st, we'll do a drabble fest especially for chromatic created sources, whether they qualify for Remix or not (and maybe the person whom your stories are assigned to will pick it, since remixers are assigned a person's entire body of work to choose from, and not limited to one fandom).
