Chromatic Festivids 2011 Videos & Resources

festivids, a rare multifandom vidding exchange, went live today. Like the Chromatic Yuletide 2010 and Chromatic Yuletart 2010 lists, we'll be compiling a list of all the festivids videos from chromatic sources or that feature chromatic characters. One of the things we'll also be noting in brackets [] is music by chromatic musicians used for each video.

But shouldn't Book of Eli be chromatic creators? The directors are African American twin brothers The Hughes Brothers

We have Book of Eli categorized as multi creators because although the directors are chromatic, the screenplay is written by Gary Whitta who is white, I believe?

I'll need to watch my giftvid again--Yves (Zuleikha Robinson) does make more than one appearance in it as part of the ensemble, though I'm not sure if it's enough to qualify as featuring?

(ETA: Just to warn, there's a brief shot that has cultural appropriation in there...oh, Chris Carter, no.)

I think like one of our other moderators said before, the lines for inclusion of ensemble fanworks are rather fuzzy and fraught -- and even more so for visual medium. Without any characters metadata, it's difficult to decipher whether the vidder for this particular vid intends for a general ensemble vid or one focusing on the three white male characters as shown at the beginning and ending sequences? (I'm not familiar with the source as you can tell!) Since we've generally relied on creator's meta tags and whether they felt their ensemble work features a chromatic character in a central role by listing them in the header/felt comfortable labeling their ensemble work "chromatic".

In the end, I've added the vid to the list and reworked the list a bit so now there's a note "Ensemble including [chromatic character(s)] -- not main focus" for such cases as this?

Yeah, I didn't want to appropriate chromatic natures where they weren't due. In the series proper, Yves has quite a substantial role, but the three main white males die, which is probably why the vidder focused on them somewhat...I don't know. My apologies if this causes problems! I just love Yves.
